About

Christina Wells (she/her) is a multi-genre writer, educator, and Co-Managing Editor of the literary journal, Paragon. Heavily influenced by her rural Newfoundland upbringing, Christina’s work explores facets of memory, childhood, and the interconnectedness of human and non-human creatures. Starting out in creative writing courses in her undergrad, Christina went on to complete her capstone project, a novella entitled The Locust Tree. In 2008, after teaching ESL in Taiwan, completing her BEd at MUN, and teaching English Literature in Vancouver, BC, she continued writing and completed graduate courses in English Literature at UBC (as an undeclared student).

Christina’s work has appeared in ROOM Magazine, Riddle Fence, Horseshoe Literary Magazine, The New Quarterly, The Newfoundland Quarterly, and in various self-made chapbooks, with work forthcoming in The Fiddlehead. She won the NL Arts & Letters Senior Creative Nonfiction Award (2024), won 2nd place in the Sparks Poetry Contest (2024), 1st place in the Gregory J. Power and Jeroboam Poetry Competition (2024), and 1t place in The Newfoundland Quarterly‘s nonfiction contest (2025). She was shortlisted for The Fiddlehead’s Ralph Gustafson Poetry prize (2024) and received honourable mention in The New Quarterly’s Nick Blatchford Occasional Verse Contest (2024).

Christina is currently completing a Masters in English Literature with a creative thesis at MUN, completing a poetry manuscript under the supervision of Dr. Michelle Porter. She is working on a secondary poetry manuscript with poet, George Murray. She currently lives in St. John’s, Ktaqmkuk/Newfoundland with her beautifully chaotic family and her adorable dog, Bowen and is looking forward to getting started on her PhD in the fall.
