Today was all about connection.
It started out with a jaunt in Bowring park with my mom, dad, four-year-old daughter, and 10-month-old son. It was cold, but we enjoyed the scrunch of the snow underfoot. My baby hated the cold wind, but after some cajoling from his expert grandmother, he was fast asleep and cozy in his carrier. My four-year old enjoyed a terrifying/thrilling slide down the hill and was brave enough to go four more times before admitting she was indeed too cold to go on. My parents enjoyed fussing over us all.
In the evening, I joined a women’s spirituality group. I did not know what I walking into, but since I was invited by my lovely friend Robyn, I went, because I trust her, and also because I was curious.
I was quite guarded at first, but as the night wore on, I relaxed and even shared a little, about my developing journey with self, body, family, community. Leaving, I felt so grateful for kooky people everywhere. Vulnerable, open, compassionate, welcoming, fierce. I made good friends that night.
More of that please.
And then I belly laughed with my friend and her sister in the car as they dropped me off at home, like we’d been neighbours for years and years.
St. John’s has some chops.
And some very beautiful people.
